Get Started

Getting involved with digital signage at Penn State is very easy. This guide will walk you through the steps to get connected to the Poppulo Cloud system. Choose the option below that best describes your situation and follow the instructions to get started.

Install a new sign

We’re so excited that your unit is interested in installing a digital sign! We are happy to get you set up. The list below is a general process for getting a new sign installed. Processes may vary based on unit and location of the sign.

Review the considerations below to help you determine the best use of your digital display. The Digital Signage Team can help you work through any questions or concerns you have and will work with you every step of the way to get you setup.

  • Type of sign
    • Static (non-interactive)
    • Interactive touchscreen
  • Location
    • Where do you plan to put the sign?
    • Vertical (portrait) or horizontal (landscape) display layout?
    • Accessibility considerations
  • Connectivity
    • Is there electrical power and hardwired internet available?
      • Digital signs can operate over wireless, but hardwired connection is preferred.
  • Audience
    • Students, faculty, staff, guests, etc.
  • Maintenance
    • Who will maintain the player computer?
    • Who will update and maintain content?
    • No local maintenance needed for the Poppulo Cloud server system.

Once you’ve discussed these considerations with your unit, contact us at digitalsignage@psu.edu. We will schedule a kick-off meeting to go over more details and discuss your signage.

Replace an existing sign computer

Replacing the physical digital sign computer is easy and you can do it all in Poppulo Cloud. Review the How to Replace an Existing Sign document for instructions.

Share content with other units

Using the Poppulo Cloud system allows units to easily share content across the Penn State signage system. If your unit has content to share* but doesn’t maintain any signs, contact us at digitalsignage@psu.edu and we will give you access to both Poppulo Cloud and the Digital Signage Community of Practice Teams space to post information about your content. If your unit currently has digital signage, someone in your unit will already have access to these resources.

Once you have access*, review the Sharing Content document for instructions on how to share with other units.

*Note for Student Organizations: Student organizations interested in running digital screen graphics can submit their design, dates, and information online via the HUB Marketing Office. Select the ‘Submit an ad now’ button and complete the form and upload. Submissions for digital signage are simultaneously considered for select publications (HUB Toilet Paper, Elevator Pitch, etc.) as space permits; digital signage space is guaranteed. Content runs on a dedicated StuOrg feed in Student Affairs buildings.
