The process to migrate your existing FourWinds signage into the new FWI Cloud environment involves only a few steps and should be a relatively smooth process.
The Migration Team created a tentative migration schedule for when units will begin migration. This is a basic order of who goes when, but not exact dates as some units may migrate faster than others based on a number of factors. As we approach your unit’s turn in the order, the Migration Team will be in touch to get things started.
In general, the process will go like this:
- Export each sign individually
- You will need to access Content Manager (Web or Desktop) and export each individual sign and save it locally or in a Box folder. The file should have the .ds file extension.
- Note: once you export your sign, any changes made to your existing signs WILL NOT be reflected in the FWI Cloud version. It will be important to make a note of what content you change once you export your sign content.
- Send your exported files to the migration team
- We’ll provide details on how to get us your files.
- Once we have them, we’ll import them into the new system and database for you and reconnect as much data as possible.
- We may contact your content creators to discuss any missing or unlinked data
- Obtain the hostname of each content player in use by your unit
- We will need the hostname (name of PC), MAC address and IP address in order to connect your player to the FWI Cloud database
- Upgrade players to the latest 5.16 version of FWI Content Player
- This will be done at the last minute when we are ready to make the switch to the new software.
- The Migration Team will provide you with the executable upgrade file to run on the machines – this can be done as a bulk process or individually based on your unit’s abilities.
- Connect player to FWI Cloud
- All player machines MUST HAVE access to the internet to run the FWI Cloud software.
- All communications now originate at the PC Player side
- Update content
- Once everything is connected, your content creators can update content and begin using the signs as always.
Training will be available for content creators and sign administrators as we move along.
